Golden Corral: Quantity over Quality
Golden Corral had never really shown up on my list of restaurants that I wanted to try until recently. There are a lot of other restaurants in Little Rock and anytime Golden Corral came up, a better choice usually presented itself.
My kids have a different opinion and after visiting the North Little Rock location a few times with other relatives, they insisted that we go there as a family. So we did go there and results were very mixed.
While I must admit that the kids loved it again, I wasn’t as big of a fan. For me all of the food was at best adequate in taste with nothing that stood out as good.
Normally I don’t have high expectations of the total all you can eat buffet restaurant as it is difficult to do everything well and in large quantities, but even my low expectations were not really met. As expected there was a little of everything available, steak, chicken, ribs, shrimp, catfish, etc. Lots of side dishes and salad ingredients as well. And a very large selection of dessert items which were the only remote highlight for me, but still only of average taste with nothing standing out.
Golden Corral was a restaurant that was all about quantity at the expense of quality for me. While that isn’t a totally unrealistic expectation for a buffet restaurant, there should be at least one thing that stands out as good and it didn’t seem like that was the case here.
While the service (only re-filling your glass and clearing used plates) was okay, it definitely wasn’t enough to compensate for the overall experience of the food.
I can’t really recommend this restaurant unless your kids talk you into going because they like it and then you can only temper your expectations and go to make them happy. We will not be planning any future trips ourselves for the reasons mentioned above.
